Mark is currently involved in the Growth Innovation Pilot Initiative research project. This project aims to enhance the international competitiveness of five New Zealand companies by strengthening their knowledge and capabilities in design for desirability. This project includes different Masters, undergraduate and staff research projects carried out within AFFECT - The Centre for Affective Design Research. Mark is also part of the Roof Water Research Centre (RWRC) of Massey University in Wellington. He supports the interdisciplinary research team with design and engineering knowledge and conducts undergraduate design projects in collaboration with companies and the RWRC. Furthermore, Mark currently pursues a Massey University funded research project that aims to develop web-based product design guidelines as a systematic tool for professional product designers in industry and novice designers in education. This research follows on from his PhD research at the University of Otago.
