Growth and Innovation Pilot Initiative (GIPI)

The most significant externally funded research initiative that Affect has undertaken is the Tertiary Education Commission funded Growth and Innovation Pilot Initiative (GIPI): Industrial Competitiveness through Design for Desirability. This grant of $1 035 000.00 is the largest single grant for Industrial Design research in New Zealand history.

 

The GIPI is the first initiative of its kind within New Zealand. The project focuses on knowledge sharing and project collaboration between Affect researchers and key players in New Zealand industry.  

 

GIPI purpose:

- To improve the competitiveness of New Zealand industry by increasing the design knowledge of key players within New Zealand industry. Successful products are:

a) innovative, exciting and inspirational

b) inviting, pleasing and innovative to use

c) address customers and users socio-cultural and economic needs

The aim of the GIPI is to assist companies to address these issues in their design process. 

 

- To improve the relevance of the students' learning experience by seeking input from New Zealand Industry on Industrial Design course content. In this way ensuring Massey University Industrial Design students are equipped to meet the needs of that industry.
