Surplus and Creativity 2010: Kinder, softer, sweeter

Surplus and Creativity: Kinder, Softer, Sweeter received entries from the areas of fashion and wearable art; materials and textile design; product and furniture design; and visual art and design.

This year's brief was to transform surplus or discarded products so that their impact on the world is less serious - bringing them into a new being that is kinder, softer, and sweeter:

• Kinder on the environment, reducing the waste stream by recycling through reuse
• Softer on materials, reinvesting embodied energy to redeem and reinvigorate discarded surplus objects
• Sweeter solutions that delight, inspire and meaningfully contribute to the experience of everyday life
