Fourth Year Projects

Affect supports a range of Fourth Year Bachelor of Design projects within Massey University's College of Creative Arts.  The following are brief descriptions of ongoing and completed Fourth Year projects.

3c Kitchen System

Under graduate student:  Juliet Ramson

Project status:  Complete

Project description:

This project looked at housing trends moving toward more urban living, environmental consciousness, lack of affordability and the consequences on future kitchen design. The research findings established an opportunity for design to enhance the domestic kitchen experience to better cater for these forecasted social needs.

The result of extensive design development is a product design called 3c kitchen system. The system is composed of three main appliance units for cooking, cooling and cleaning functions which contribute cost savings by mass production of a standardised frame. Appliances are arranged under the bench-top to allow for overhead storage to reduce the kitchen's spatial consumption. As a result the service system can provide energy efficiencies and cost savings through the effective distribution of utilities to power consuming appliances.

The system satisfies the needs of future housing developers: by offering value, convenience and mass customisation as well as meeting end user market needs of: desired quality, enhanced usability and upmarket styling. It's a kitchen solution that will not only enhance the kitchen experience, but will offer ongoing cost and energy savings for the user, by simply raising awareness.
