Lyn has extensive professional design and lecturing experience in New Zealand and the UK, and is Undergraduate Programme Coordinator for the Industrial Design major within the Bachelor of Design. He specialises in product design, ergonomics, technology, and furniture design, and supervises the final-year industrial design students in their major projects. Lyn is particularly interested in:
The relationship between industrial design and science fiction, focussing on the way that industrial design ideas are expressed in the production design for science fiction movies, and the relationship between industrial design, science fiction, and culture.
Industrial design research processes, particularly those that connect product design and product experience.
The integration of ergonomics factors into products and furniture: particularly the physical and virtual interface between users and products, and ergonomics issues surrounding office furniture and public furniture.
The design of high-performance furniture such as office furniture and public furniture.
