On the 20th of November 2008 Affect - the centre for affective design research presented an explorative workshop Visions for the Future Kitchen which was hosted by Fisher and Paykel in Dunedin.
Participants looked at material from rethnographic interviews conducted in six Kiwi kitchens in the Wellington area in order to explore the potential for envisioning kitchen futures. They also looked at some additional material from studies in European kitchens.
The aim of the workshop was firstly, to provide an opportunity to look beyond the personal bias of how participants understand the kitchen context. Secondly, to enable sharing and collaboration across disciplines and allow participants to challenge each other to envision how the future could or should be. Thirdly, to develop understandings and to create designs based on these understandings.
